Our campus offers a variety of living options for students. All First Years and Sophomores are required to live in our two residential halls: Smith Hall (for women) and Warman Hall (for men).

Students who are at least 20 years of age or at Junior standing (60 credits) are eligible to live in any of our campus one and two bedroom apartments and houses. Except for married students, only students of the same gender can live in an on-campus apartment together.

Exams are a great strategy to earn credit if you are comfortable with standardized exams and have prior knowledge in the exam subject area.  If you have any measure of test anxiety, this is not a good option for you.  There is some risk—you will need to post a passing score and be self-disciplined to map out study time to prepare, schedule the exam and follow up to make sure the official transcript posts.  You also need to pay for the exam—either out of pocket or by saving your excess funds and using those to cover the site fee and exam fee. All exams must be completed at least 60 days prior to graduation to allow time for us to receive official scores.

Commonly reported symptoms of COVID-19 infection include fever, cough, shortness of breath, and pneumonia. While the exact incubation period for this coronavirus has not yet been determined, it is believed that most infected people will develop symptoms two to 14 days after they were exposed (source: Maryland Department of Health).

Typically, there are out-of-pocket expenses for education in addition to financial aid funding. You can arrange payment plans with the Office of Student Financial Services and payments can be made online through MyWP at http://mywp.warnerpacific.edu/, in person at the Mt. Tabor campus, or by calling 503.517.1207.

To minimize the potential out-of-pocket costs, you should make sure to utilize all resources available including loans, grants and outside scholarships. You may view some available scholarship opportunities at https://www.warnerpacific.edu/admissions-aid/financial-aid/grants-scholarships/.

Every campus community member is asked to self-monitor for any symptoms of COVID-19 before coming to campus. If you have any of the symptoms related to COVID-19 or listed on WPU’s Campus Clear app, please contact your medical professional to address your symptoms. Students may also visit knights.care to speak with a doctor.

You can expect someone who is interested in listening to your concerns and in helping you develop a better understanding of them so that you may deal with them more easily and effectively. Your counselor will take you seriously and be willing to openly discuss anything you wish to discuss. Your counselor will be willing to answer some questions about herself or himself directly and honestly. Because counselors have different beliefs about how people change, they differ on how much talking they do in sessions, whether they ask you to do “homework,” and their focus of discussion. If you have any questions about what is going on, by all means ask. Counselors have no “magical” skills or knowledge, and will be unable to solve your problems directly for you. Your counselor will want to work with you, but won’t do for you what you are capable of doing for yourself. Except under unusual circumstances, your counselor will maintain strict confidentiality about you as required by laws and ethical guidelines, and will openly discuss this with you in the first session.

The grant may be used for any part of the cost of attendance or for emergency costs related to the pandemic. The grants may be used to cover a student’s outstanding balance if the student chooses.

Eligible expenses include but are not limited to: Tuition and Fees, Food Expenses, Course Materials, Technology Expenses, Healthcare Expenses, Child Care/Dependent Care, Transportation Expenses, and Housing Expenses.

Your loans will either enter into the six-month grace period or enter into repayment. This is a student-specific situation so we recommend that you contact your loan servicer, which can be determined by visiting https://studentaid.gov/dashboard/. Be sure to also complete Exit Counseling by visiting https://studentaid.gov/exit-counseling/.

When you begin classes at Warner Pacific, the school will report you to the Department of Education as an active student and your student loans will automatically enter an “in-school deferment” status as long as you are enrolled at least half-time. You may also complete an in-school deferment request form, which is available through your loan servicer’s website. NOTE: Deferment cannot begin until you are actually in attendance.

There is often a delay in the time it takes for your student loans to reflect deferment status, but your loans should reflect the change within 30 days of your start date.

If you earned income and are not sure if you need to file, go to the IRS Interactive Tax Assistant to find out if you need to file taxes. If you are not required to file, you can simply list any income you may have earned during that tax year.

You may request to cancel all or part of your Federal Stafford Loans by two different means:

1. Through the financial aid self-serve portal, which can be accessed at http://mywp.warnerpacific.edu/. Click on the “My Awards” section from the drop-down menu, then click on “Accept or Decline”. For each loan you would like to change, select the semester to be changed and update the amount accordingly, then click “Submit Changes” to send your request to the Financial Aid staff for review.
2. Complete the Loan Change Form

Most likely, you have already filed your taxes, as most of the deadlines to file have passed. If you have not filed yet, you must do so in order to be eligible for federal financial aid.

In the meantime, you can complete the FAFSA with estimated information and revise it once your taxes have been filed.

CLEP tests are no longer offered at Warner Pacific University. Please visit the CLEP website at www.collegeboard.org to determine the most convenient testing location for you. You will need to contact the testing location directly to arrange a test time. Make sure to send your official transcripts to the WPU Records Office to be entered onto your academic record.

A Leave of Absence (LOA) is a planned temporary break in attendance with a specific date of return within the same semester. It is different than a break in attendance, which does not have a specific date of return. Completing an LOA form prevents any negative impact to your financial aid while you are out of attendance.

Warner Pacific University has a formal LOA policy for Professional and Graduate Studies Students (see the most recent Academic Catalog) that allows you to be out of attendance for a specific period of time, but you must meet requirements for an LOA to be approved:

• You must schedule a return date
• You must receive federally mandated LOA counseling from your Financial Aid Counselor prior to the last night of attendance
• You must complete an LOA form
• You must attend the last class session before your leave and return to class as expected after your leave

If you take a break in attendance without an approved LOA In place you may have to begin repaying your loans. Federal Stafford Loans have a grace period of six months before you must begin repayment. When you take a break in attendance you will not have to repay your loan until the grace period expires. But, if you use all of your grace period during your time out of attendance, you will have to begin repaying your loan immediately after you graduate or leave school. It is possible to request an extension to the grace period, but this must be done before the grace period expires. If your grace period has run out in the middle of your break in attendance, you will have to start making payments on your student loans.

Your FSA ID is a username and password that you must use to login to certain U.S. Department of Education (ED) websites. Your FSA ID identifies you as someone who has the right to access your own personal information on ED websites such as the FAFSA.

It’s important to understand that a student and parent may not share an FSA ID. Your FSA ID is your signature, so it has to be unique to you. If you are a parent of a dependent student, you will need your own FSA ID if you want to sign your child’s FAFSA form electronically. If you have more than one child attending college, you can use the same FSA ID to sign all applications, but each child must have his or her own.

All sports will continue this year. Fall sports competitions have been moved to Spring 2021 with practices beginning later in the Fall semester. Winter sports will begin after November 1, 2020. Spring sports will remain as scheduled. Updates for this and all information regarding Knights athletics can be found at wpuknights.com.
