Help McGuire Auditorium Shine Again
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
Dedicated in 1976, McGuire Auditorium is the social and spiritual heart of Warner Pacific University. Nearly 50 years of memories have been made here through commencement ceremonies, arts and musical performances, inspirational speakers, and uplifting fellowship and prayer.
These same years have also brought the effects of exposure to Portland’s persistent rains. A recent structural assessment found water damage affecting the signature
windows atop the distinctive spire.
Electrical wiring is also damaged, leaving only a few operable spotlights illuminating these treasured windows for the campus and surrounding Mt. Tabor community. This iconic space must be preserved for future generations of Warner Pacific students, faculty, and staff.
A campaign is quietly underway seeking lead commitments and pledges by June 30, 2025. These funds will enable critical restorations and enhancements in time for McGuire’s 50-year celebration in September 2026.
The focus of this project is preservation of the distinctive colored windows. Although they appear to be stained glass, these windows are glass blocks joined by concrete. Over time, the concrete has eroded, allowing water to penetrate the roof and damage wood and electrical wiring.
The windows cannot be removed without severe risk of breakage. Restoration work will encase each panel in special glass coverings, essentially storm windows, to keep water out and prevent further damage.
Additional renovations include:
- Painting exterior facia board
- Electrical system upgrades
- New interior lighting
- Heating/air improvements
- Update the audio/visual system
- New tables and chairs
- New window drapes
- Rebuild stage ramps and carpet replacement
