As Warner Pacific University prepares to celebrate the Class of Fall 2025, student speaker Ivan Gonzalez Cisneros reflects on a journey shaped by faith, community, and a growing understanding of purpose.
Graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management, Ivan will serve as the student speaker at Commencement—an opportunity he approaches with humility and gratitude.
“First and foremost, it is an honor and a privilege to serve as student speaker,” Ivan said. “I want my voice to represent all students graduating, whether they are traditional students or PGS students, combining the diverse makeup of WPU.”
Finding Purpose Beyond a Career
Ivan’s time at Warner Pacific reshaped how he understands education and success. What began as preparation for a career became something deeper—a calling centered on service, leadership, and community.
“WPU has given my education and career a purpose in which it’s not about making a living, but about building for others,” he said.
Throughout his time on campus, Ivan became known for his ability to connect with people and foster meaningful relationships. An excellent student, he contributes thoughtfully in the classroom and brings a strong work ethic to everything he does. His presence has enriched the Warner Pacific community through his work as a peer navigator, his involvement with the Somos Knights Club, and his engagement in the spiritual life of campus.
A Defining Turning Point
Like many students, Ivan’s journey included moments of challenge and reflection. One turning point brought clarity to his sense of direction and deepened his faith.
“My turning point was visually seeing that God has always had a hand in my life,” Ivan shared.
That realization shaped how he approached his studies, relationships, and future plans—grounding him in trust and gratitude.
Shaped by Seasons of Growth
As Ivan prepared his Commencement remarks, he found inspiration in a theme that resonated deeply with his own experience. In the course Exploring the Human Condition, he encountered the work of author Parker Palmer, who describes life as unfolding through seasons.
That perspective became a guiding framework as Ivan reflected on his time at Warner Pacific—recognizing seasons of challenge, growth, waiting, and renewal, all held together by God’s faithfulness.
A Message for the Class of 2025
At the heart of Ivan’s message to his fellow graduates is a simple but powerful encouragement: “Have faith and know God has a purpose for you.”
It is the same truth that sustained him throughout his own journey and continues to shape his hopes for the future.
Encouragement for Students Still on the Journey
For students continuing their time at Warner Pacific, Ivan offers practical and heartfelt advice: “Keep showing up, trust the process you’re in, make friends, and enjoy the little things in between your studying and homework assignments.”
Looking Ahead
Ivan dreams of one day owning and operating a gym, where he can serve his community with faith, integrity, and purpose. Whatever the next season brings, his desire remains the same—to give back meaningfully and to live out the calling God has placed on his life.
