Now in its fifth year, the President’s Tea & Scholarship Auction is an opportunity to gather and help meet the needs of under served and first generation college students as they pursue their higher education goals.
The event will feature both a silent and verbal auction, as well as a charity ‘paddle raise.’
This year, we welcome award winning author, Sarah Thebarge as our keynote speaker.
After surviving a grueling battle with breast cancer, Sarah fled her successful career, her Ivy League education, and a failed relationship on the East Coast to start over in Portland.
She was hoping to quietly pick up the pieces of her broken life, but instead she met Hadhi, a Somali refugee abandoned by her husband.
Sarah befriended Hadhi and her daughters, and set out on an adventure she’d never anticipated.
Her memoir, “The Invisible Girls,” was released in April 2013 and is available in the campus bookstore. Learn more about Sarah at sarahthebarge.com.
The President’s Tea supports the Act Six Scholarship program at Warner Pacific.
We also welcome special guest and Act Six scholar, Yesenia Delgado.
The oldest of five children in a single parent home, college was not at the top of her priority list after graduating from Reynolds High School.
Through the support and investment of the Act Six Program at Warner Pacific, Yesenia discovered a desire to lead.
She is now majoring in Human Development, and serves on Student Government and Student Diversity Council.
Yesenia is passionate about investing and inspiring others to achieve greatness one day, just as Warner Pacific believed in her.
She will be graduating in May 2014.
