About Professor Yerden

WPC Classes Taught:  Private Piano and Organ since 1996.  Class Piano, periodically.  Have substituted in other classes; i.e. Aural Skills, Church Music Administration.  Am currently Staff Accompanist.  Part of Tabor Duo, performing with Dr. Dennis Plies.

What excited you most about the WPC Community I like the idea of taking a journey with each student.  I stay in touch with many of them throughout the years and have participated in their weddings and other life events.  I also enjoy the friendship of other faculty members.  I feel fortunate to share in most/all recitals, performance events, graduations, etc.

Describe the current trajectory of your scholarly research and/or performance/rehearsal schedule.  I continue to perform with Tabor Duo and also as a duo partner with my sister in Duo Piano and Organ Concerts.  I am also a recently ordained minister in the field of Church Music.  I work with my husband in local churches as accompanist and also as worship leader.  I perform locally and nationally.  I desire to continue learning through master classes and by attending concerts and listening to various artists.  I also belong to OMTA and have been a member of Clark County Music Teachers Association.  I am currently NCTM or a Nationally Certified Teacher of Piano.  I continue judging for events and taking part in any way that I can with the musical events that take place.

What kind of hobbies or special activities do you enjoy?  Reading, practicing, participating in group events, knitting, loving on my family, having coffee or lunch with friends, attending church events.

What were your childhood goals/aspirations?  My childhood goals were to marry a minister/minister of music and play the piano for the church.  My idols were Ron and Carolyn Patty.  I would memorize all of her accompaniments.  I always dreamed of accompanying a quartet or group/choir someday.  I also had a secret desire to teach at the college level and was excited when the opportunity arose for me in 1974.  I have been teaching at the college level since then.

What are you listening to in your car right now?  A CD of organ music performed by one of my organ teachers in Indiana.  I have numerous CD’s and enjoy all types of music….gospel, folk, classical.  I enjoy David Phelps (gospel singer)……Gaither Vocal Band………Bridgetown…….my daughter’s CD’s…..our family CD’s………classical piano…….classical organ……..the list goes on.

What was/is your favorite childhood story?  I loved Little Women but I really didn’t have any favorites.  I did enjoy reading Bible Stories or any classics that were assigned to us in school.  I love/loved mystery novels as a young girl, such as Nancy Drew, etc.
