Welcome Week at WP 2013
Thursday, August 22

8:00 am – 1:00 pm

Welcome Week Check-in- Lower Egtvedt Hall: ALL NEW STUDENTS MUST CHECK IN at the Welcome Week Check-in tables. You will receive your Welcome Week Packet and the Knights will direct you to where you need to be! If you miss check-in please check in at the front desk of the Admissions office when you arrive.

Residence Halls Open for Move-in: After you check in for Welcome Week, head over to the Residence Life tables to complete your housing paperwork.

8:30 am – 10:00 am

Composition Testing – A.F. Gray 2, 11, and 12:  Your Admissions Counselor will notify you if you need to participate

9:00 am – 11:00 am

Arena Registration – Lower Egtvedt Hall: If you did not attend a summer Registration event, Arena Registration is mandatory.

10:00 am – 11:00 am

Coffee Break With the President for Family (No Students Please) -  Egtvedt 203:
Come share a cup of coffee or tea with President Andrea Cook at this open house style coffee break with the president.

11:00 am – 11:30 am

Financial Aid Entrance Presentation – McGuire Auditorium: Attendance is mandatory for all students using the federal loan program.

11:30 am – 1:00 pm

Lunch- Dining Hall: Students with a meal plan, swipe your card. Lunch will be covered for new commuter students today. Family and friends can eat lunch for just $5.

1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Welcome Week Opening Session – McGuire Auditorium: Family and students gather with us for your official welcome to Warner Pacific from President Andrea Cook, Dean of Faculty Cole Dawson and ASWPC President Ben Pirtle.

2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

First Year Learning Communities Session 1: Mandatory for first-year students. Meet your FYLC class. Get to know your instructors and peers who will be on this journey with you. Stay in McGuire Auditorium after the Opening Session to get room assignments.

Transfer Experience: Transitions and Connections – Egtvedt 203: College is not new to you but Warner Pacific is. Learn how to navigate WP, and receive valuable information and resources to help with a smooth transition.

2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Get the Scoop – Parent and Family Orientation – Dining Hall: Join Parent Relations for a bus tour of our students’ stomping grounds and then return for some ice cream and an informative session about this transition for your students and for you.

4:00 pm – 5:00 pm

CSI Testing – Gotham Hall – Science 2004: Mandatory for all first year students who did not take the CSI at registration this summer.

4:00 pm – 5:00 pm       Free Time

5:00 pm – 6:00 pm

All Campus “Aloha” Dinner – A.F. Gray Lawn: Aloha- it means hello … but also goodbye. This dinner is a transition from your home to a new community. Get to know WPC students, staff and faculty. Dinner is on your meal plan. Family and students without a meal plan will be covered.

6:00 pm – 6:30 pm

Family Send Off – A.F. Gray Lawn: As the parent and family portion of Welcome Week comes to a close, please participate in our formal goodbye to your parents and family.

6:30 pm – 8:15 pm

Knighting Ceremony and ASWPC Welcome Session – McGuire Auditorium: Come participate in the Warner Pacific tradition of being “knighted” by our Queen. You’ll also meet Knightro and get your very own Warner Pac t-shirt. This traditional rite of passage will be followed by a welcome you won’t forget by current WP student leaders.

Hangout with your PAs: The Peer Assistants have organized games and events for their respective halls. If you are a commuter student, go with the PAs from the apartments. Stay in McGuire and you’ll be split up into your groups.

Friday, August 23

8:00 am – 9:00 am        Breakfast- Dining Hall

9:00 am – 12:00 pm

First Year Learning Communities, Session 2: Mandatory for first-year students. Sections meet in designated classrooms.

12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

Lunch- Dining Hall: Lunch is on your meal plan. Students without a meal plan will pay.

1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Service Learning at WP – Service Orientation: A Warner Pacific education doesn’t only happen in the classroom. Discover how you can make an impact in Portland and learn how service relates to your college experience while taking a tour of some of WP’s local Community Partner organizations. Wear walking shoes.

3:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Multicultural Welcome Reception – Egtvedt 203: Learn about the programs and resources offered by the Office of Diversity, the Student Diversity Council, and WP Student Multicultural Organizations. All new students should attend. Light snacks will be served.

5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

President’s Dinner and Traditional Tree Planting- Dining Hall: Enjoy a delicious dinner hosted by President Andrea Cook and help plant the entering class of 2012 tree. Swipe your card. We’ll cover the cost for students without a meal plan.

8:00 pm – 11:00 pm

Ice Games and Broom Hockey: Get to know the people in your class and have some fun! Busses will leave from outside Egtvedt Hall.

Saturday, August 24

8:00 am – 9:00 am        Breakfast- Dining Hall

9:00 am – 9:15 am        City Search Orientation- McGuire Auditorium

9:15 am – 3:30 pm

City Search – Portland (Depart from McGuire Auditorium): Mandatory for all first-year students. Explore Portland with other new students from your FYLC class. Learn how to navigate and experience the city as your classroom.

5:00 pm – 6:00 pm       Dinner- Dining Hall

8:00pm – 10:00 pm

Movie Night – A.F. Gray Lawn: Relax and watch a movie on the lawn with all of your new friends!

Sunday, August 25

8:00 am – 12:00 pm

Visit Local Churches: Getting connected to a local church is very important. See your Welcome Week packet for a list of local churches to visit or ask a Knight to help you find one.

Beach Party – A.F. Gray Lawn: Join new and current students for music volleyball, and other outdoor games!

New Students and President Cook: Come join us as President Andrea Cook speaks to all of our new students and leads us in dedicating our campus for the coming year (Schlatter Chapel)

Convocation – McGuire Auditorium: President Andrea Cook will address the community in this traditional opening of the academic year. This ceremony includes the faculty in their academic regalia and our traditional welcome tunnel.

Involvement Fair – AF Gray Lawn: Come discover how you can get involved both on and off campus. There will be representatives from clubs, work study jobs, volunteer leadership opportunities and other opportunities. We will also have representatives from local churches, service partners and other organizations.
