Athletic Hall of Honor

During Alumni and Family Weekend, Warner Pacific College will induct its first class into a newly established Athletic Hall of Honor.

"We are pleased to recognize this first group of alumni with induction into our athletic Hall of Honor," said Athletic Director Ryan Kaiser. "The Knights Booster Club stepped forward with this idea, and I think it's the perfect time. Warner Pacific has a rich history of outstanding student-athletes and coaches. It only makes sense to connect our community with that heritage of excellence."

Glenna (LaFont) Collier, Brent Goulet, and Dave Dougherty will be honored on Saturday, February 11th during the Hall of Honor Dinner, and be recognized at half-time of the men's basketball game.

Glenna (LaFont) Collier - Volleyball

LaFont captained the Warner Pacific Volleyball team to a record 33 victories in 1982 on the way to winning the NCCAA Regional and National Championships. After the Knights' remarkable playoff run, LaFont was named NCCAA Regional Tournament MVP and to the National All-Tournament Team.

Brent Goulet - Soccer

He was named to the NAIA All-Tournament Team in both 1984 and 1985. Rev. Dave Dougherty - Men's Basketball

Dave DoughertyDave Dougherty was a member of the Warner Pacific basketball team from 1963-66. He was named team MVP three times (64,65,66) and led the Knights to two PCCC Championships.

A long time pastor in the Northwest, Dave was a dedicated servant of Jesus Christ and his focus was on loving and serving people. Over more than 40 years of marriage, Dave and his wife Peggy were a formidable leadership team for the church.

Throughout his ministry, Rev. Dougherty was an enthusiastic supporter of Warner Pacific athletics, particularly the basketball and track & field programs. As an alumnus and former athlete, he was a true ambassador and valued friend of Knight athletics.

Dave’s dignity and joy in the face of terminal cancer was an inspiration to WPC athletes and coaches, and he is dearly missed.

What an honor to see my brother on the WPC Hall of Honor. Dave loved WPC with a passion and called me often with sports updates. I thought it was terrific going to the History page and seeing some of the first students in front of Pacific Bible and seeing Dave and I's dad James. Looking at dad reminds me of Dave. He was so pleased in the direction the college was going and was so pleased with having such an awesome president as Andrea Cook and I share those thoughts. I thank the good Lord for WPC and I know God will continue to bless WPC. I miss my time with my brother, but I know He is enjoying the bounties of Heaven. Thanks for honoring Him!

Thank you so much for honoring my father. I was truly touched when I saw him in the Hall Of Honor. Admittedly I cried a bit, but not out of sorrow, but joy. My father is an amazing man and a proud alumni of WPC. He supported the college throughout the years in any and every way possible. Even after his days of playing basketball for WPC were over, he always made it a point to show to games and support the teams and the athletic department. It brought him great joy to cheer on the young people and encourage them to succeed. Thank you so much to the FPC faculty and friends who were such close friends to Dad, he valued your friendships beyond measure...you know who you are. I am proud of my father in so many ways...not just for his successes as an athlete, but a pastor, father, and my hero. I love and miss him every day. Thank you so much for recognizing and honoring him.

Seeing Dave honored on the WPC Hall of Honor brings back a flood of memories. He was such a great brother, positive person, and role model. The only season I ever got to play on the same team with him we(Rockwood) defeated Holliday Park and brother Doug for the championship. It was more exciting to me than winning the State High School Championship in 1967. Whatever sports program they have in heaven I am sure Dave is actively involved.(Of course there's a sports program - It's Heaven!)
Seeing Dad's picture in the History section, all buff and no tie, fills an aging son with pride. I remember what a good friend of A.F. Gray he was and how surprised I was to see him as a pallbearer at A. F. Gray's Funeral. I didn't even know he was in town. I thank WPC for making Dave one of its first inductees.

Dave was not only a great athlete, but carried himself with a true sportsmanlike attitude in all his relationships. He remains a shining example of Christian behavior and witness. Including Dave as one of the initial inductees into the Athletic Hall of Honor says volumes about the spirit and character of Warner Pacific College.
