Equipping Future Educators
Few careers are as rewarding as teaching and mentoring children. Warner Pacific's experienced faculty can prepare teacher candidates to make an impact on young people in the classroom. WP's warm, caring and compassionate professors are licensed teachers who are passionate about their subject matter. You will learn in a small classroom setting with Christian values woven through the curriculum. Coursework can be completed in 4 years, and our graduates are teaching throughout Oregon and many parts of the country and the world.
Mission
The mission of the Education Department is to provide a personal and caring Christian learning environment that prepares future educators. We prepare teacher candidates in current instructional practices and in an understanding of the complexities of the teaching profession. We endeavor to mold Christian role models who are witnesses in the most critical arena in American society – our schools.

Program Description
One of the largest of the college's programs of study, Teacher Education prepares students for initial licensure in Early Childhood Education (ECE), age 3 - grade 4; Elementary Education (EL), grades 3-8; Middle Level (ML), grades 5-10; or High School (HS), grades 7-12. Those in middle level or high school must have a subject matter or specialty area endorsement. For greater flexibility and employability, students are encouraged to consider pursuing a dual authorization (i.e. two levels of licensure).
Undergraduate students wishing to pursue a career in teaching middle/high school declare a major in their chosen content area. Those pursuing licensure in ECE and EL select a major in Education.
The college offers the following ML/HS endorsements: Advanced Math (Individualized Major), Biological Science (Biology major); Language Arts (English major) and Social Studies (Social Science major). ECE/EL and ML/HS combination endorsements are also available in Music (Music Education major) and Physical Education (Health and Human Kinetics major.) Add-on endorsements are offered in Reading (K-12) and Basic Math (5-9).
The length of the post-baccalaureate program varies depending on the student's individual preparation during the student's bachelor program, but students can plan to spend at minimum of three semesters (including the student teaching semester) to fulfill the 36-hour residency requirement.
Whether Teacher Education licensure is completed as part of an undergraduate degree or as a post-baccalaureate program, the Education program prepares future teachers with coursework in foundational studies, human development, educational psychology, methods and pedagogy, and a wide variety of field-based practica and student teaching opportunities.
