A full bus of family members toured the area around the College and Mt. Tabor during Welcome Week. Amy Vaught, class of 2012, did a fabulous job of narrating and pointing out places of interest.
When the tour ended, we realized that we drove by 9 of the 11 service sites in SE Portland, along with the College's Center 205 Campus where some classes are being held this year. In addition, families viewed the Portland Adventist Hospital, the East Portland Community Center, the East Portland Police Station, Mall 205, the Ramada Inn (a nearby discounted hotel if you mention WP), the entrance to Mt Tabor Park, down Belmont, West on Hawthorne (for the culture of it) and back east on Powell.
Finally, we turned back toward the college, past Franklin High School, several coffee shops. Using a map and an electronic megaphone, service sites and activities were described to the crowd. Thanks to the awesome planning of the F.A.N. Club, this idea became a reality.
