Warner Pacific College has become the first institution of higher education in Oregon to join the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) as a partnering institution. HACU represents 400 colleges and universities that are committed to the academic success of Latino students in the United States and Puerto Rico, as well as Latin America and Europe. As a private, Christian college located in urban S.E. Portland, Warner Pacific is dedicated to serving students from diverse backgrounds."As a member of HACU, we are saying that we are intentionally being sensitive to minority populations in cities, in this case the Hispanic population,” said Dr. Caleb Rosado, Director of Warner Pacific’s Urban Studies program. “It becomes a tremendous factor in recruiting as we become recognized as an institution that is actively seeking Latino students.”
The benefits of joining HACU are numerous, including improved government relations at the federal level, general advocacy, access to conference and events, and faculty and staff development. More importantly, Warner Pacific students are now eligible for additional academic scholarships, paid federal and corporate internships, and job search services through HACU.
“Our partnership with HACU will provide our Latino students tremendous academic and
professional opportunities,” said Warner Pacific College president Andrea P. Cook, Ph.D. “Warner Pacific College is committed to being a force for positive change in the city of Portland and providing students a transformative educational experience is part of that mission.”
