An exciting celebration titled “This Is Our City” took place this past Friday evening in the city of Portland. This celebratory event was launched by the national publication, Christianity Today and highlighted Warner Pacific College, our president, Dr. Andrea P. Cook, and many of our Act Six Leadership & Scholarship scholars.
The event was a culmination of several months of interviews that began last spring here in Portland. Andrea Cook had the opportunity to share the College’s mission and vision with the editors of Christianity Today (CT) who were visiting Portland in preparation for their two-year editorial and documentary series entitled “This Is Our City.” The upcoming series profiles six cities and previously untold stories about Christians and urban ministries responding to their city’s challenges with excellence, Christian faith and hope. The six cities differ dramatically from one another in size, economic climate, ethnic and racial composition, and in their history of Christian presence, leadership or abdication, at crucial moments.
Portland is the first city to be featured in series that begins with the November 2011 issue of Christianity Today, and features Warner Pacific College!
At WP we are preparing a new generation of Christians to seek shalom in their cities. These students will use their gifts and energies in all sectors of public life—commerce, government, technology, the arts, media, and education—to bring systemic renewal and to bless their neighbors in the process. Our students are no longer on the sidelines of influence. Emboldened by the belief that Jesus loves cities, they model a distinctly Christian approach to civic engagement for the 21st century.
Warner Pacific will continue to be featured both in the magazine and online over the next several years. Thank you for your continued interest and prayerful support of Warner Pacific College. Lives are being changed here at the college and throughout the city we call home.
