Traces of the Cosmos Viewing Schedule

PORTLAND, OR-- Warner Pacific College is pleased to host an exhibit featuring the work of Portland artist Jan Madill as part of their on-going storytelling series, “Your Story Matters”. Madill’s installation, entitled "Traces of the Cosmos," will be displayed in the Community Room located on the second floor of Egtvedt Hall February 1 through February 22, 2012 at Warner Pacific’s Mount Tabor Campus (SE 68th and Division).

Madill’s artistic and vocational influences were the result of being born into a family with an artistic mother and father who was a research chemist. A Northwest native at heart, Madill’s family migrated from the Chicago area to Shelton, WA near Olympia where her father could conduct his research and live near the mountains her family grew to love.

Madill’s talent for art was fostered and encouraged during her youth. Although she followed another important dream, practicing Internal Medicine, the desire to pursue her art more fully always remained below the surface. “Art was a small but key part of my life as I pursued other important directions,” stated Madill. “It was always there and eventually gathered such force that it reclaimed a prime role in my life.”

Upon completing her undergraduate degree at Stanford, Madill received a M.Ed from the University of Oregon. She eventually moved to Portland with her husband, William Madill, whom she had met at Stanford, to attend medical school at what is now OHSU. Upon completing her residency in Internal Medicine, Madill worked at St. Vincent Hospital and eventually became medical director of a clinic at Good Samaritan where she also taught and had a small practice.

A mother of two grown children, Madill now paints full-time and enjoys working collaboratively with her husband Bill on sculptural obelisks that will also be on display during the exhibit.
