Knights Athletics: Fall sports round up

Cascade Collegiate ConferenceAs our fall athletics season comes to a close, here’s a quick review of Knights soccer, volleyball, golf, and cross country.

General

  • Seven student-athletes were named US Bank Academic All-Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) for their outstanding performance in the classroom. Marchelle Bostic, Almir Celebic, Briana Cowin, Pedro De Leon, Jessica Kepfer, Hannah Mierow, Josh Wright

Men’s Soccer

  • The Knight men’s soccer team has struggled somewhat on the field, posting a 4-9 record so far, with six of those losses having been by a single goal
  • Bernie Fagan will complete his 25th year as head coach in 2013. His overall record is 257-184-35
  • Jameson Jones leads the team with five goals scored
  • The Knights will say goodbye to seniors Scott Schnitzer, Abe Kidane, Josh Wright, Pedro De Leon, Ricky Carmolinga, Daniel Ervin, Dorian Lair, and Jameson Jones

Women’s Soccer

  • First year coach Holly Popenuk is excited about the improvement shown this season. After struggling early in the season to a 1-7 record, the Knights have won two games in a row
  • Senior Trisha Durham leads the team with 5 goals scored, and has been named Cascade Conference offensive player of the week two times in 2013

Volleyball

  • The Knight volleyball team has suffered a rash of injuries this season, contributing to a 4-21 record so far
  • Newcomer Julia Toscano has been an outstanding addition. Her 287 kills (3.30 kills per set) is #4 in the Cascade Conference
  • Marchelle Bostic has moved into #2 on the WPC career assist list. She has 1399 in 189 sets played, and needs just 71 more to surpass Rebekah Patton for the #1 spot

Golf

  • The Knights golf teams competed in three tournaments this fall, including the Warner Pacific Invitational at Glendoveer Golf Course
  • A.J. Nelson won the Warner Pacific Invitational for his first career individual medal

XCountry

  • First year coach, David Kilian has undertaken a rebuilding project for both the men’s and women’s teams
  • The Knights will compete in their final event, the CCC Championships held in Caldwell, Idaho, on November 9
