Freshman Level
- Identify books and journal articles using catalogs, indexes, and bibliographic databases
- Locate and use dictionaries, subject encyclopedias, and reference materials
- Locate and use non-print resources
- Locate and use the Library's collections and services
- Locate and critically evaluate materials on the Internet
- Distinguish between primary texts and critical works
- Interpret and use citations found in indexes, databases, notes, or bibliographies to locate books and journal articles in the Library
- Use the Library's course reserves system
Sophomore/Junior Level
- Understand the nature of information resources in their major disciplines
- Understand reference resources including databases, indexes, and bibliographies in their major disciplines
- Locate and critically evaluate primary resources specific to their discipline such as images, sound recordings, and statistical data
- Locate and critically evaluate non-scholarly resources such as current or contemporary news accounts
- E-mail or download citations, text, and/or data from electronic resources and edit or manage this information using appropriate computer applications
- Locate and obtain books and journal articles from other libraries by borrowing directly through interlibrary loan
- Be aware of area libraries' resources available through electronic and walk-in use
- Track information resources used in the course of their research and create accurate notes and bibliographies according to a style manual appropriate to the discipline
- Understand issues relating to the ethical use of information, including concepts of intellectual property and copyright
Senior/Thesis Level
- Understand specialized reference resources including databases, indexes, and bibliographies in support of thesis research
- Locate, obtain, and critically evaluate information resources to support thesis research
- Format the thesis according to Warner Pacific College requirements and appropriate style manuals
