Citing Electronic Resources
Electronic resources should have the standard citation elements of author, title, source, publication date. If the citation consists of just a web address, it is not correct.
Examples: APA or MLA or Turabian
Crucial Elements Unique to Electronic Resources:
- URL (http://……..)
- Retrieved date (date the material was accessed via the Internet)
Key: If you can't find the material on the Internet using the information in the citation, it is probably not correct.
Red Flags:
- Wikipedia or other encyclopedia: May be useful, but not appropriate to cite for college level papers.
- Address Endings: Addresses ending in .com (commercial), .net (network provider), .org (non-profit organization) should be scrutinized more that those ending in .edu (educational institution) and in .gov (U.S. government).
