Bachelor of Science in Human Development

Human society is made up of individuals. People who want to help change society through work in ministry, human services, or the social sciences can benefit from an understanding of how individuals develop and grow throughout their lives.

Warner Pacific College offers a Bachelor of Science in Human Development (BSHD) degree for working professionals who want to prepare for career opportunities in these areas of expertise. Designed for students with prior college experience, this bachelor’s degree program teaches theoretical knowledge and practical skills for working with others, guided by a Christ-centered worldview.

Who This Bachelor’s Completion Program is For

The Bachelor of Science in Human Development is suitable for working adults of any age who:

  • Want to gain skills in counseling and conflict resolution along with an understanding of the physiological, psychological, and social growth of humans;
  • Want to pursue or advance their careers in ministry or human services organizations;
  • Want a degree that can prepare them for graduate studies in the social sciences.

What Our BSHD Can Teach You

The human development degree completion program at Warner Pacific provides 45 credits of upper-level study. It is designed to produce graduates who are skilled communicators, counselors, and case-workers.

Course topics in this program include:

  • Foundations of Human Development
  • Cultural Studies
  • Counseling Theory
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Ethics, Faith, Living, and Learning

How the Program Works

The Bachelor of Science in Human Development is a cohort program. Small groups of 14-22 students advance through each course together. This format results in a collaborative learning environment where students can share experiences and get the most from their instructors.

Cohorts meet once a week in the evening at six locations around the Portland-Vancouver area. ADP program students benefit from the support of staff who understand the needs of adult students, and can help with admissions, financial aid, and career services.

Admissions Requirements

To apply for admission to the BSHD degree program, you need to have:

  • At least two years of full-time work experience
  • At least 48 credits of previous college coursework, with a minimum 2.0 GPA

Your previous college coursework can be in any area, and may have been earned at an accredited college or junior college, as well as through examinations such as CLEP or DANTES tests. An enrollment counselor can help you determine what kind of credit you have that is eligible for transfer evaluation.

Students who do not speak English as a first language may be required to take a TOEFL test or provide official scores from previous tests.

Finally, you need to complete our application form, provide transcripts from previous educational institutions, and pay the $25.00 fee.
